The Committee on Drags Control was established on March 23, 1993 pursuant to the Resolution of the National Security Council under the President of Ukraine and registered by the UN International Narcotics Control Board with the status of specifically authorized competent authority in the sphere of control of the turnover of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors in Ukraine. The Committee is an integral part of international system of control over controllable substances legitimatized by the number of UN conventions.

Under the Regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1446 of September 11, 2003 the Committee was granted the capacity of governmental body in the structure of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
